We specialize in brain aneurysms, epilepsy and movement disorders, but also offer treatment for many other neurological conditions, including:

  • Brain and spinal cord tumors
  • Degenerative disorders
  • Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS)
  • Headaches and chronic pain
  • Nervous system infections, such as meningitis and encephalitis
  • Neuropathy
  • Ocular and vestibular disturbances
  • Sleep disorders
  • Spine injuries
  • Stroke (cerebrovascular accident)
  • Vascular malformations

Brain aneurysm

A brain aneurysm is a balloon-like bulge in the wall of a brain artery. If it tears and bleeds, nearby cells may be damaged. A brain aneurysm can occur in an artery wall that is weak or has a defect. Risk factors for a brain aneurysm include high blood pressure, heredity or head injury.

Brain aneurysm treatment

One treatment we offer for brain aneurysms is endovascular coiling. This is done in an X-ray lab by a specially trained doctor (interventional neuroradiologist) and is used to block the flow of blood into an aneurysm.

We offer complete care for epilepsy and seizure disorders. Epilepsy is a neurological disorder characterized by abnormal brain activity that causes seizures. We may use various imaging and monitoring techniques to diagnose epilepsy. Symptoms of epilepsy can include:

  • Confusion
  • Dementia
  • Disorientation
  • Loss of consciousness
  • Memory loss
  • Ticks and tremors

Epilepsy treatment

Our epilepsy monitoring unit (EMU) is designed to evaluate, diagnose and treat seizures in patients of all ages. Our board-certified epileptologists and neurologists will work with you to determine the appropriate treatment to control seizures and manage symptoms. You will also be admitted to the EMU if you are being considered for seizure surgery.

Movement disorders

Movements disorders can cause an increase in voluntary and involuntary movement. It can also cause your movements to become slower. We specialize in treating the following movement disorders:

  • Ataxia
  • Corticobasal degeneration
  • Dystonia
  • Essential tremor
  • Huntington disease
  • Multiple system atrophy
  • Parkinson’s disease
  • Progressive supranuclear palsy
  • Restless leg syndrome
  • Tourette's syndrome
  • Wilson disease

Advanced neurological treatments

Once a diagnosis is determined, our neurology specialists create a treatment plan tailored to your specific needs. Advanced treatment options may include:

Deep brain stimulation (DBS)—This is a minimally invasive, reversible technique to help patients with movement disorders, psychiatric disorders, seizures and certain types of chronic pain.

Intrathecal baclofen therapy (ITB)—This treatment delivers a medication (baclofen) directly to the space where fluid flows around the spinal cord using a pump. This decreases spasticity without the possible side effects of oral medications.
