Electroconvulsive Therapy in Nashville, Tennessee

Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) is a very safe and effective treatment that can help those living with mental illness improve their quality of life. We offer ECT to treat certain mental health conditions, such as severe bipolar disorders, schizophrenia and severe depression. It may be recommended for patients if other treatment methods are not effective.

During ECT, electrodes are placed on specific places on the head to send mild electrical currents that create a controlled seizure in the brain. Medications are provided prior to treatment to ensure the seizure is mild and that there is very little movement that occurs in the body. Patients are under general anesthesia for the procedure and not awake. We offer both inpatient and outpatient ECT.

The goal of ECT is to provide quick relief from mental illness symptoms, but some patients will undergo multiple procedures. Our clinicians use customized treatment plans with patients undergoing ECT.
